Importance of Health at the Workplace
Sunday, May 20, 2012 16:26It is a bit odd to think that one’s personal mental and physical health can actually affect their job but health researchers have determined that people who live generally healthy lives tend to be more productive than people who disregard health or are actively unhealthy. Companies and employers are now beginning to realize this as well and they are on the look out for people who are physically and mentally fit! There are many benefits to living an active and healthy lifestyle which can not only affect one’s personal life but also their career as well; having the necessary energy will assist with having a positive attitude about one’s job as well as being an uplifting coworker in the workplace. More and more modern businesses and companies are offering healthy foods in their cafeterias and some are even going so far as to supply health based initiatives to keep their employees fit. In some places it is much more of a success than others. For example, Microsoft offered free basic gym memberships to many of their employees and it became a huge success!
On top of this, employers want their employees in good shape and living healthy lifestyles because that in turn cuts down on the amount of sick days taken which could have easily been avoided if th employees maintained healthy diets and activities. Similarly, having mentally healthy employees is obviously advantageous because a positive, healthy employee can greatly affect workplace morale while someone who is mentally unhealthy may be toxic to the general atmosphere of the workplace. Because of this, many companies and business are enacting a strict behaviour change program for their employees so they can lead healthier lives which will in turn positively affect the workplace.
